Unforgettable - The Phoebus Foundation

Women artists from Antwerp to Amsterdam, 1600-1750

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, women left a refined yet profound mark on the artistic life of the Low Countries. Yet their names largely vanished from the very history they helped to shape. Unforgettable brings these overlooked artists back into the light, presenting more than forty works that reveal their strength, mastery and daring. Among the highlights is Boy with Tobacco by Michaelina Wautier, from The Phoebus Foundation collection.

Painting of a young figure bringing tobacco to the mouth, seated at a table with a pipe and tobacco knife, by Michaelina Wautier, c. 1650–1655.
