Bozar turns its attention to Jean Brusselmans (1884\u20131953), a painter who approached everyday life with a distinctive sense of form and colour. Landscapes, village scenes and figures are pared back to clear planes, strong outlines and carefully constructed compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two works from The Phoebus Foundation collection are included in the exhibition: Church of Dilbeek<\/em> and The Walk<\/em>, both from 1929. In Church of Dilbeek<\/em>, Brusselmans constructs the village scene as a rhythmic interplay of fa\u00e7ades, rooftops, trees and the rising church tower. In The Walk<\/em>, he brings figures and landscape together in a clear composition in which form and colour set the tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
