Public bathhouses were places to wash, relax and socialise. At the same time, they had a rather ambiguous reputation. In art and literature, they were often portrayed as places where pleasure and moral danger sat very close together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That tension is neatly captured in the Latin inscription beneath the print.
