Symphony of Colors: Paul Signac and Neo-Impressionism
From 4 July to 11 October 2026, Symphony of Colors: Paul Signac and Neo-Impressionism explores how Neo-Impressionism developed a new understanding of light, colour and visual perception. At its heart is Paul Signac, who, together with Georges Seurat, helped lay the foundations of this groundbreaking artistic movement. Through his exploration of light, rhythm and optical colour effects, Signac left a lasting mark on modern painting. The exhibition highlights not only his work, but also his influence as a theorist, advocate and unifying force within the avant-garde.
Bringing together works by Signac and his contemporaries from across Europe, the exhibition reveals how ideas, techniques and artistic ambitions travelled across borders, helping to shape a new vision of the modern world.
The exhibition also features three works from The Phoebus Foundation collection. The Scheldt Upstream and The Tennis Match by Théo van Rysselberghe, together with Woman on Her Way to Church by Henry van de Velde, highlight the significant contribution of Belgian artists to Neo-Impressionism. Each work reflects, in its own way, the movement’s fascination with light, colour and scenes from everyday life as subjects for artistic innovation.
